GIRLS GAA ~ CUMANN NA mBUNSCOL CORN ORIEL WINNERsSt. Marys Parish Primary School 3-08 Scoil Mhuire na nGael Dundalk 1-01
St Mary’s Parish Primary School Girls retained their Cumann na mBunscol Corn Oriel title with an impressive display in Darver on Thursday 27th October. St Mary's were unbeaten on the way to the final and they maintained this good form on a very windy night. Playing against the wind in the first half they had to defend well against their Dundalk opponents who threatened goal on numerous occasions. Excellent defending from Mia O'Byrne, Amy Crowley and Hannah Leech denied their opponents many times, while Martha Nyarko and Sophie Grey and Elizabeth McGowan drove the team forward. At half time St Mary's held a slender 1 point lead on a scoreline of 1 02 to 1 01, the St Mary's scores coming from Caitlin Rooney (1-01) and Sophie Grey (0-01).
Wind assisted in the second half St Mary’s dominated the play and gradually pulled away with a fine display from Sophie Grey who won lots of possession in mid field and with Caitlin Rooney accurate from play and from frees St Mary's won comfortably in the end.
